The Bar Cross Ranch is conveniently located 12 miles northwest of the county seat of Pinedale, Wyoming on Highway 352 and one hour southeast of Jackson Hole with paved road access. With a population of approximately 1,400 in Pinedale and 6,000 in Sublette County, this charming western town is supported by local industries such as ranching, recreation, tourism, oil & gas, logging, and government. The Sublette County Airport (Wenz Field) is located approximately 21 miles from the ranch and has an 8,900' runway that can accommodate most private jets. Commercial service is available one hour away in Jackson Hole, which is serviced by Delta, United, American, and Northwest. Rock Springs, Wyoming, is located 1 ½ hours from Bar Cross and offers commercial service by Great Lakes Aviation, connecting through Denver.
The Bar Cross Ranch has always been an important hay and cattle ranch for the Pinedale community and is rich with local history. In addition, several well-known national figures have spent time on the ranch in past summers including the Kennedy children and the Grateful Dead band during the ownership of one of the songwriters, John Perry Barlow.
The ranch consists of 5,007 deeded acres with approximately 1,200 acres of irrigated land and two miles of private New Fork River with an additional one mile on State land within the ranch boundaries. The Bar Cross offers breathtaking views of the Wind River Mountain Range (home of Gannet Peak, the highest peak in Wyoming at 13,804’), the Sawtooth Range, and the Wyoming Range. The ranch borders BLM and State lands, offering thousands of additional acres to enjoy and explore. The Bar Cross has been used for hay production and cattle grazing historically with grazing permits on the National Forest, BLM, and State leased land. A Forest Service grazing permit on the New Fork-Boulder Allotment totals 10,972 acres, the BLM grazing allotment totals 3,587 acres, and there is an additional 640 acres of State Land. The Bar Cross is clean and well kept, with the ranch roads, fences, and irrigation systems in excellent condition.
The Bar Cross Ranch offers first class and completely PRIVATE wade fishing on the New Fork River which flows through the ranch for two miles on the meander with an additional one mile of the river on State land that is within the ranch’ boundary. The New Fork River offers wild trout fishing at its finest and will challenge the angler with deep pools, riffles, and willow-lined undercut banks. The New Fork is well known for its large brown trout, as well as rainbows, cutthroat, and cutt-bows. Browns in the 14”–18”range are fairly common with some going over 24” This river starts in the Wind River Mountains and flows out of the New Fork Lakes which are a few miles upstream of the ranch, then eventually joins the Green River.
The Bar Cross Ranch is an exceptional sporting property, with convenient access only 12 miles from Pinedale, and offers some of the best fishing for wild trout that Wyoming has to offer, and 360 degree views that are magnificent. |
